Dirty Memory Stick?
One solution may be to stick the item in the washing machine for a 40 degree spin cycle!?
Well maybe not, as we all know electronics and water do not mix - however accidents can and do happen. Due to their diminutive size USB Memory Sticks can be left in pockets of clothing that may accidentally make its way into the wash basket.
Needless to say, devices that have been unfortunate enough to experience a wash cycle rarely come out of the other end unscathed. Technicians recover microwaved USB Memory Stick

VenSys Limited have proved that microwaving a USB memory stick doesn’t mean the device is unrecoverable. Earlier today we received two devices that were left in a microwave by a customer as an anti theft measure. The sticks were left separate to the company laptop to ensure that even if the laptop was stolen the data on the sticks wouldn’t be taken with it.
However, disaster struck, when the customers partner came down in the morning and turned on the microwave to heat up the morning bottle for the baby.
One of the devices was a Kingston Data Traveler device with a plastic outer casing and despite melting of the plastic around the internal board and the chip appearing to sustain a slight level of damage the device was recovered.
Unfortunately even our expertise proved unable to recover the second device which had a metal outer casing.

VenSys have yet again proved that regardless of what happens Flash and other portable storage media are nearly always recoverable. VenSys Ltd recently received a water damaged USB memory stick that had been placed into a shirt pocket and forgotten. Subsequently it was washed and with the device appearing completely dead, when inserted into a USB port, the owner feared he had lost his part completed book (which was on the device) forever.
We assured him that, despite appearances, the device could be recovered by the use of exclusive technology - which proved to be the case. The recovery involved a read of the data chip rather than attempting any repairs to the board - which was rendered useless after it’s trip inside the washing machine.
On the same day another usb device requiring the same style of recovery was recovered within 1 hour of arriving at our workshops and the data was then made available to download from our ftp servers - resulting in two extremely happy customers that day!
